In the hold
Dogs and cats weighing more than 8kg (including the weight of the kennel) can be transported safely in the hold of air-conditioned aircraft*, with prior reservation and confirmation of the excess baggage corresponding to the transport of your pet. Please register your pet in your reservation at least 48 hours before departure or call the Call Center at least 24 hours before departure.
Your pet can be accepted at check-in only if the following requirements are met:
- Provide all necessary documents such as export/import/transit permit, health booklet with all vaccinations up to date, passport, any other document required by the authorities of the destination country;
- Pay the transport fee for your pet;
- Carry your pet in the IATA standard crate (details here) and provide at the check-in counter, the signed Conditions of Carriage form for dogs or cats in the hold of the aircraft. You can download the form here. TAROM reserves the right to refuse carriage of animals in inappropriate cages.
In order to be accepted for travel in the aircraft hold, your pet must meet the following conditions:
- It must be booked in advance, preferably at the time of booking.
- Must not be of a snub-nosed breed (brachycephalic). On all TAROM flights, snub-nosed cats and dogs are not accepted for travel in the aircraft hold. You may find a list with snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds here.
- Must not belog to a forbidden breed. More details here.
- Must be clean, healthy, harmless, odorless and not pregnant.
- Must not have taken tranquilizers.
- Must not wear a leash and/or muzzle.
- Must be kept in a suitable container or cage.
- Animals up to 6 (six) months oldfrom the same litter, of comparable size, up to 8 kg each and up to maximum quantity of 3 (three), may be shipped in the same container. Animals over that weight must travel individually.
- A maximum of 2 (two) adult animals of comparable size up to 14 kg each, that are accustomed to cohabitation, may be shipped in the same container. Animals over that weight must travel individually.
- Puppies and kittens under 12 weeks of age shall not be accepted for carriage. The animals must be weaned from their mothers and must take food independently.
- The maximum weight of the animal, including the container, shall not exceed 75 kg.
- For dogs over 40 kg (cage not included):

- may be accepted only as cargo.
There is a limitation for the maximum number of containers allowed per passenger as shown below. Any request exceeding this limit shall be transported as cargo.

Due to the size of the aircraft hold doors, there are limitations regarding the maximum dimensions of the animal container, as shown below:

IMPORTANT ! Due to the volume limitations of the aircraft cargo holds, only 1 cage having maximum dimensions can be accepted.
